Our story

Engineering ethical
finance for Gambia.

We exist to prove that technology can serve communities — not strip them. Nufaa is a Sharia-compliant marketplace where your money grows through staking rewards, never shrinks through interest.

The founder

Built by someone who
lived the problem.

Alhassan Bah grew up in Gambia. He watched neighbours pay 25% interest on a sack of rice and lose half a month's wages to fees on a bank account they barely used. The system was designed to extract from the people who could afford it least.

He saw a different path in blockchain staking — where yields could replace interest entirely, and where paying for essentials could actually build wealth instead of bleed it.

"Nufaa is the result. A platform where fairness isn't a marketing line — it's the architecture."

The mission

Break the cycle of extractive banking in Gambia. Electricity, airtime, rice, household goods — purchased interest-free, settled by staking yields.

Every Dalasi held inside Nufaa quietly acquires Sharia-compliant digital assets that earn real on-chain rewards. Those rewards retire your balance — or compound it. Either way, the community grows together.

Why Sharia-compliant?

In Islamic finance, charging interest (Riba) is forbidden — because it taxes the most vulnerable hardest. Conventional banks built their model on exactly that asymmetry.

Nufaa runs on a Wakala (agency) structure. You aren't taking a loan. The platform stakes on your behalf; the network yields the economic value that settles each transaction. Finance grounded in transparency and shared prosperity.

More than an app.
A network.

Nufaa isn't a payment app you open and close. It's a shared system — neighbours, families, and merchants building balance together. Referrals reward both sides. Tips and knowledge move across the network.

When one balance grows, the protocol works for everyone. Prosperity, here, is shared by design.

Vision & roadmap

We're building in phases. Each one widens the set of essentials Gambians can access without interest.

  • Phase 1 — Utilities & essentials

NAWEC electricity, Africell airtime, rice, cooking oil, household goods. Live now through the Nufaa agent network.

  • Phase 2 — Full marketplace

Clothing, electronics, school supplies, transport — every category backed by staking, none charging interest.

  • Phase 3 — SME financing

Small businesses can stock tools, machinery, and inventory interest-free — capital sourced from network yields.
